Together with the support of our distributors, Hioki held a seminar on “EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) & Functional Safety Seminar” in both Singapore and Malaysia on the 20th and 23rd April 2018 respectively. Conducted by renowned professor Er. Dr. Lock Kai Sang, the seminar served as a catalyst to many new connections. We appreciate the diverse group of people and the number of key organizations who had joined us too!
As part of HIOKI’s corporate philosophy “Contribution to Society”, our primary goal was to educate the community , thus to increase the participants’ understanding of the seminar topics, and to introduce & provide electrical measuring instruments that will support technology innovation to meet the needs of society.
More than 170 participants attended the 1-day seminar in Singapore and Malaysia in total. The seminar examined the fundamentals of EMC and the impacts of EMI on functional safety. Installation and mitigation guidelines to achieve EMC were also illustrated with particular reference to IEC61000-5 series of standards. The key topics covered include fundamentals of EMC, functional safety, cabling guidelines, earthing and bonding design,
HEMP and lightning protection concepts, protection against conducted disturbances and protection against radiated disturbances, just to name a few.
Er. Dr. Lock Kai Sang at Singapore Seminar 2018
Er. Dr. Lock Kai Sang is a Professor at Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and concurrently an Adjunct Professor at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He has a unique blend of practicing and academic experience acquired through a career equally split between the industry and the academia. As a teacher and trainer, his key strength is the fusion of practical examples with fundamental principles.
In addition, he is a Board Member of the Professional Engineers Board, Singapore and a Past President of the Institution of Engineers, Singapore. He is well-versed with standards and codes of practice and was the Chairman of Singapore Standards Council for 6 years, actively contributing to the promotion and establishment of Standards and Codes of Practice in Singapore. Not only that, he is also a Fellow of Academy of Engineering, Singapore, Honorary Fellow of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organizations, and Senior Fellow of ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology. Hioki Singapore is very honoured to have Dr. Lock with us for the seminar both in Singapore and Malaysia.
At Hioki Malaysia Seminar, Hioki Singapore has the privilege to work with The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia. Established in 1959, the institution’s primary function is to promote and advance the science and profession of engineering in any or all of its disciplines and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas related to engineering. Membership of the 3 Institution is currently about 30,000 , making it one of the largest professional organization in Malaysia.

Both the participants in Singapore and Malaysia also took part in an Engineer’s Challenge , whereby engineers from various industries were divided into different teams and competed against each other by answering a total of 40 questions, across 7 stations in 35 minutes.
At each station, the engineers had to use HIOKI test and measuring instruments, which include Battery Tester BT3554, Memory HiCorder MR6000, Power Quality Analyzer PW3198 & PQ3100, Digital Multimeter DT4223 & DT4224, just to name a few, and rack their brains in order to unlock the solutions to the challenges. Through the Engineer’s Challenge, the engineers were also introduced to HIOKI’s latest innovations, and were able to have more hands on sessions during the seminar.
